
WhatsApp has changed a lot over the years. The app has not only got tons of new features, but it has also seen major design changes in the past. Now, in yet another such move, Meta has rolled out a major design update to WhatsApp’s Android and iOS-based apps. This update, like its 2020 update brings a major overhaul to the overall look and feel of the app. It also brings consistency to the interface of its Android and iOS apps.
The announcement was made by WhatsApp boss Will Cathcart on his official WhatsApp channel. “Our design has evolved a lot over the years, but we’ve always focused on keeping WhatsApp simple, private, and reliable. We’re making a number of new updates to the interface that will help make WhatsApp feel more fresh,” he wrote in his post.

New colour palette
WhatsApp is bringing a more consistent green experience throughout the Android and iOS apps. The company has also increased the usage of neutral colors within the two apps.
Darker Dark Mode
WhatsApp has also updated its dark mode making it slightly darker. “We focused on higher contrast and deeper tones to reduce eye strain in low-light environments. We’re making it one shade darker for improved visual appeal and legibility,” WhatsApp wrote in a blog post.
Updated icons and illustrations
Besides the colour, WhatsApp has also updated the icons in order to make it easier for users to get relevant information. “We’re updating our icons to a rounded, outlined style and, to match the new iconography, we also refreshed our illustrations and added animation for a more playful aesthetic,” the company added.
Updated chat background
The company is also refreshing the original default background in chats making it more creative.
Updated Navigation
WhatsApp has updated the bottom navigation bar on Android to streamline navigation. The company has placed tabs closer to people’s thumbs offers more natural navigation on Android.
On iOS, the company has introduced an updated attachment layout that not only makes it easier to access the options but also makes the experience consistent throughout Android and iOS apps.
