WhatsApp has finally started rolling out the Message Reminder Feature for its beta testers. The feature will notify and remind users about their unread messages in chats. As per reports, the feature was reported in the latest beta version for Android (2.24.25.29). Users interested in trying this feature before the official rollout can head to the Google Play Store and download it via their beta program. The Message Reminders feature will only be available to the selected beta testers at the start. You can head to Settings and click the Notifications option. There will be a Reminders feature stating that the app will provide occasional reminders for messages. To recall, WhatsApp only sends reminders for status updates from your loved ones; Especially from those you interact most. However, with the upcoming feature, you will be able to get reminders about whose message you missed reading on WhatsApp. Also Read: Message Without WhatsApp? These reminders will be sent to you for the messages from people you chat with the most. As per reports, the selection of contacts for reminding unread messages is based on an internal algorithm that prioritizes contacts with whom the user is interacting the most. The feature will only work on the current WhatsApp. If users delete and reinstall WhatsApp, the app will again recalculate the contacts with whom they are interacting the most as the data is not backed up on the server.
WhatsApp is planning to bring this feature because many times we miss messages from important contacts and that is where this feature will help. It will remind users that they have an unread message from this particular contact. It is noteworthy that this reminder feature will relatively be rare as the app does not want to overwhelm users with excessive notifications. This will make sure that the notifications are relevant and non-intrusive.
