WhatsApp is rolling out a new update that makes customising your profile even easier and more personal. According to WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp update tracker, the popular messaging app is introducing two features focused on profile images — one that adds a dual photo-avatar display and another that simplifies importing your profile photo directly from Facebook or Instagram. A new option now allows users to display both their personal profile photo and a custom avatar side by side on WhatsApp. But note that this is for the beta users. This creates a “dual visual identity,” offering more ways to express yourself. You’ll also get the ability to choose background colours and enjoy subtle animation effects, including a coin-flip animation that alternates between the two images on the chat info screen. This feature gives users more freedom to experiment with how they appear to contacts, especially if you like switching between a real photo and a digital version of yourself. Also Read: Mark Zuckerberg Suing Mark Zuckerberg? Sort Of… Here’s The Story
With the latest beta update version 2.25.21.23 for Android, WhatsApp is testing a feature that lets you import a profile photo directly from your linked Facebook or Instagram accounts. This can be done through the profile settings, right where you’d normally go to change your picture.
Previously, if you wanted your Facebook or Instagram photo on WhatsApp, you’d have to download it manually or take a screenshot. This update skips all that and fetches the image directly—saving you both time and steps.
To use this feature, you need to connect your WhatsApp account with the Meta Accounts Centre, a centralised tool that links your WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. Don’t worry, this is optional and off by default. That means you’re in full control.
Even if you link your accounts, WhatsApp’s core privacy protections, like end-to-end encryption, remain untouched. This update only impacts optional features like profile image syncing, not your messages or calls.
The profile import feature is currently available to select beta testers using the WhatsApp beta app on Android. It’s expected to roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
