The TechCrunch report mentions that the call recording functionality will only be pulled off from iPhones starting September 30. That said, iOS users will also lose access to existing recordings stored within the Truecaller app after the announced deadline. To avoid losing them, users are advised to either download the saved recordings, share them through messaging apps, or change storage preference to iCloud.
Truecaller introduced the call recording feature on iOS for paid subscribers in June 2023. It also rolled out support for transcribing calls. Both features made to India last year.
Now that iPhones support call recording natively after the iOS 18.1 update, Truecaller is disabling the feature for iOS users. The call recording feature works effortlessly on Android, but requires a workaround on iOS devices – making it a complicated task – as Apple doesn’t allow third-party apps to record calls natively. To bypass this restriction, Truecaller has to use a recording line merging calls to record. This workaround, according to Kabra, increases both cost and complexity.
