Google Meet's new AI feature will now take notes for you

Google Meet has started rolling out a new update that will allow you to take notes in a meeting. The feature has been named ‘take notes for me’ and it is backed by Gemini AI. Once the feature is done with taking the notes, the notes will be saved in the Google Drive of the meeting’s owner or as an existing document in Calendar. The feature will be incorporated with the Google Gemini Suite of AI tools. In the future, we can also get to see the AI tools with the Google Workspace licenses along with AI Meetings, Messaging Add-on, Gemini Education Premium, and Gemini Enterprise. How does the ‘take notes for me’ feature work in Google Meet?

The ‘take notes for me’ feature will be accessible by the Google Administrators who will also have the leverage to enable or disable it for particular users or the whole organization through the admin console. All the admins can visit the Apps section, then Google Workspace, then Google Meet, and then Gemini Settings to enable or disable the feature for the meetings. According to the official information shared by Google, the phased rollout of ‘Take Notes for Me’ is scheduled to start from August 13, 2024, to August 21, 2024. Coming to work, the ‘take notes for me’ feature uses Google AI to transcribe and summarize the discussions in meetings in real-time. After that, the AI-generated notes will be stored either in Google Drive or as a doc in a calendar according to the meet retention policies decided by the organization.
