Amazon is prepping to shut down App Store and Coins programme

Amazon has announced that the company is going to shut down its app store for Android smartphones. As announced by Amazon, the Developers will not be able to list new applications on the app store. As for its history, the Amazon App Store was launched in the market in 2021 and was being marketed as an alternative to Google Play Store.

According to the official statement from Amazon, the company said that they have decided to discontinue the Amazon App Store on Android and shift the whole focus to the App Store available on Amazon devices. The company said that a considerable portion of their customers use the Appstore on Amazon devices only so they want to focus more there.

Amazon App Store to shut down soon

It has also been confirmed that the Amazon App Store will be accessible from its own devices like the Fire tablet and Fire TV. Apart from that, Amazon has also decided to put a hold on the digital currency program known as Amazon Coins.

Any coins in possession of the users as of August 20 will be refunded by the platform. These coins helped the users in purchasing apps and games on the Amazon App Store. And this is not happening for the first time as Amazon recently, in 2024, announced that the support for its app store on Windows devices will end on March 5, 2025.

Amazon has many plans for this year related to the different apps from the company that are up and running in the market. Specifically, in the Indian market, Amazon has also increased the portfolio of Prime Video content which gives users more platforms to search for content. And yes, we can also get to see upgrades in the Amazon Gaming service as it has proved to be decent in the past.
