Samsung has long been working on its first XR headset – codenamed Project Moohan – which might soon see the light of the day. The device has already garnered enough attention by tech enthusiasts, making it a serious contender in the mixed reality space. Samsung’s Project Moohan XR headset will rival the Apple Vision Pro as and when it launches. Several reports and leaks have suggested the launch window and pricing of the upcoming Samsung XR headset. Samsung’s Project Moohan is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, paired with 16GB RAM. It features dual Sony micro-OLED displays with 90Hz refresh rate. For mixed reality capabilities, the Project Moohan features around 12 cameras and supports multi-camera tracking. It uses an external battery pack for continuous power.
According to Road to VR, the Samsung XR headset will also support features like hand and eye tracking. It may also come with optional VR motion controllers.
A recent earnings call hinted at Samsung’s plan of launching its first XR headset in 2025 itself. This suggests that the company is still determined at bringing the device to life after months of silence.
Samsung is expected to tease the Project Moohan XR headset during its Galaxy Unpacked event, rumoured to take place on September 29 in South Korea.
The Road to VR report, citing Newsworks, mentions that Samsung’s Project Moohan XR headset will first arrive in South Korea on October 13, before rolling out to global markets.
According to the publication, the XR headset will be priced between ₩2.5 million (approx. Rs 1.57 lakh) and ₩4 million (approx. Rs 2.51 lakh). For comparison, the Apple Vision Pro carries a price tag of $3,499 (approx. Rs 3.07 lakh).
