Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has officially rolled out its new 5G services under the branding BSNL Quantum 5G (Q-5G). The launch took place on June 19 in Hyderabad and marks a major leap into the next generation of connectivity, with a unique local twist. This is a 100% indigenous 5G platform, developed and deployed under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative.
Right now, it’s a soft launch, and the telecom company will mostly take more feedback from customers and improve its services accordingly. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
BSNL’s Q-5G is a major step into the future of connectivity. The Quantum 5G FWA offers India’s first SIM-free 5G connectivity solution, targeting communities, enterprises, and individual households. This setup is completely different from traditional ones, as there’s no need for fiber pulls or digging. Instead, it uses BSNL’s existing tower infrastructure to beam internet access directly into homes and businesses.
One of the key features is that this is a SIM-less service and also covers 85% of Hyderabad households using the existing tower grid. This is also secure and reliable, and acts as a 5G-powered leased line.
Alongside this new Q-5G service, BSNL also launched two key infrastructures. The company introduced a Micro Data Center in Hyderabad for local edge computing and faster data processing, and an International Gateway to enable high-quality international calls, SMS, and data services for both businesses and users. This move clearly shows that BSNL is ready to go all in on this service and is gearing up to cater to the booming 5G market.
The FWA solution is just the beginning. BSNL plans to expand Quantum 5G FWA to Bengaluru, Pune, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, Chandigarh, and Gwalior by September 2025. There’s also a growing focus on 6G research and development, with Mr. Ravi (BSNL Chairman and Managing Director) hinting at a future where every mobile device could act as a micro-antenna.
With BSNL’s Quantum 5G launch, India isn’t just adding another 5G network to the mix. This shows that BSNL is aiming for the top spot in innovation within one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies. This could be a game-changer for remote work, industrial automation, and smart city deployments, and it might even lead to BSNL’s resurgence in India’s highly competitive telecom sector.
