It initially looks like a gaming phone, but keep looking at it for two – three minutes, and you can see through the disguise. There’s a futuristic, tech-theme going on here, along with a reflective glossy back panel. You can see three massive camera bumps, but only one of them is the real 108MP camera, the other two have a 2MP portrait and part of the Arc Light interface.
Tecno has made sure to print every noteworthy feature of this phone on it. Here’s a list of things written on the Tecno Pova 6 Pro’s back panel:
The phone itself feels good to hold, and for this price, you’re getting the above-listed features along with a headphone jack, IR blaster, and a dual SIM + microSD card tray. All of this makes the Tecno Pova 6 Pro one of the most feature-packed phones I’ve tested at this price.
Tecno has fitted this phone with a 6.7-inch 120Hz FHD+ resolution screen. It has 1,300nits peak brightness so you can easily use the Pova 6 Pro outdoors under direct sunlight. This is a smooth and responsive display so you can easily play games and binge-watch on this phone.
However, there’s no mention of any protective layers on the screen, so if you buy the Tecno Pova 6 Pro, make sure you put on a screen guard. Now this phone has dual stereo speakers. Other than the earpiece, there’s a separate speaker on the top of the phone to give a surround sound experience when watching videos. It isn’t as loud as the main speaker, but it works.
You don’t get much choice with the cameras here. There’s a single 108MP shooter at the rear with a 2MP portrait/depth camera. While you get 3x sensor zoom, there seems to be some loss of detail when this is done. Daylight and artificial light photos are steady, but lack detail and the HDR needs some work too. Low-light photos have a lot of grain in them, but it is expected from a phone at this price.
But Tecno has a cool front-camera feature that you should know about. The selfie camera gets a dedicated dual-tone flash at the front. You can adjust the colour temperature and brightness to get decent results. However, this works more like a spotlight, so you’ll get lit up, but everything around you will remain dark.
Let’s start with the Arc interface here. The 210 light beads at the back of this phone light up together for notifications, calls, music, and even randomly if you want them to. You can easily access the dynamic lighting effect from the settings menu, and choose from 9 preset effects. However, unlike the Nothing Phones, you can’t sync these lights to the ringtone or music.
Tecno Pova 6 Pro 5G has a MediaTek 6080 chip with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Its Memfusion feature also lets you borrow free memory from storage to work as virtual RAM. Gaming, browsing social media, and even light multitasking on this phone are easily handled. There are no lags, crashes or any other issues. Coming to the overall interface, it looks outdated, and the notification and control panel settings are not that seamless.
The Tecno Pova 6 Pro gets a massive 6,000mAh battery with 70-watt fast charging. Almost all the basic apps like Instagram, Facebook and YouTube are optimised, so we got almost two days of battery backup on one single charge. It also lets you set the charging speed between temperature-friendly, smart, and ultra, depending on how quickly you want to charge the phone.
In the first look, adjusting to its design will take some time, especially if you want something subtle. But if you can look past the reflective back with countless features engraved on it, Tecno has made a good phone. For this price, you’re getting close to 2 days of battery backup, 70-watt fast charging, an AMOLED display, and a good chip with enough RAM and storage to play games and multitask.
The Arc Interface is also a decent addition, but it’d look great if Tecno can sync it to the phone’s ringtone. The camera quality is not up to the mark, and the interface looks slightly outdated. If an update fixes the camera quality, we will update it here too, but till then, the Tecno Pova 6 Pro 5G is a good phone with decent additional features but lacks a decent camera.
