Lightweight but

The first thing that struck me when I picked up the Xiaomi Pad 8 was how light it felt in hand. At 485g, it doesn’t immediately feel bulky. However, after a longer session, especially scrolling one-handed or doodling with the pen, the weight starts making itself felt. It’s manageable, but not something I’d comfortably hold for a very long time.

Clean design

The tablet comes with a metal unibody design, and Xiaomi has kept the design minimalistic. The rear has a smooth finish with a single camera setup in a squarish module, while the front is dominated by the display with fairly uniform bezels.

Xiaomi Pad 8 display

It features a 11.2-inch LCD 144Hz display, which comes with nano-texture technology with an AR coating. It says to reduce the reflectivity, making it ideal for scrolling, watching videos or reading even in harsh light. In the intial usage, the colours are quite vibrant and the brightness seems decent for indoor usage.

About Performance

Under the hood, the Pad 8 runs on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, paired with up to 12GB RAM. During my initial usage, things felt fast and stable. Apps opened quickly, multitasking was smooth, however, the real usage experience can be shared later.

Pen experience is promising

I also tried the Focus Touch Pen Pro, mainly for quick notes and doodling. So far, the experience has been pleasant and responsive. There’s good accuracy, and it feels natural for sketching or jotting things down. I’ll need more time to judge it fully, but the first impression is definitely positive.

AI features are quietly built in

The tablet runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3, and Xiaomi has added several AI tools like AI Writing, AI Calculator, AI Voice Enhancement, and Live Subtitles. These aren’t features you notice immediately, but they could be useful depending on how much you rely on productivity tools.

Xiaomi Pad 8 Cameras and battery

Talking about the battery, it packs a 9,200mAh battery with 45W fast charging. On paper, that sounds solid, but battery life is something that needs longer usage to judge properly.

Xiaomi Pad 8 first impressions

The Xiaomi Pad 8 makes a solid first impression with its clean design, smooth display, and fast performance during initial use. It feels lightweight and the pen experience has been quite good so far, but we’ll be exploring the tablet in more detail, including performance, battery, and overall usability in our full review. Plus, it also depends on the price whether it is worth a buy or you should consider other alternatives.
