Charge your phone during the day, unplug around 80–90%, and use optimized charging features. If you must charge overnight, at least avoid keeping the phone under pillows or in tight spaces.
Fast chargers generate more heat during the initial stages. Plugging them in overnight means even more hours of temperature stress, especially in hot rooms.
A few brands like Apple, Samsung, Google, and OnePlus offer “Optimized Charging,” which holds the phone at 80–90% and completes the last few percentages before you wake up. This helps, but only if the feature is enabled.
..It’s Not Healthy Either! Modern phones have safety systems to prevent overcharging, so it’s safe in general. But “safe” doesn’t mean “good” - the battery still ages quicker with everyday overnight charging.
Every time the battery dips slightly and charges again, it counts as partial cycles. Overnight charging can add unnecessary cycles, reducing overall battery lifespan.
Even though phones stop “charging,” they still top-up repeatedly to stay at 100%. These mini charging cycles create heat, and heat is one of the biggest reasons battery cells age quicker.
Modern lithium-ion batteries don’t like staying fully charged for long periods. Overnight charging every day can slowly reduce your battery’s maximum capacity, making it drain faster over the months.
When you leave your phone plugged in overnight, it reaches 100% quickly and then stays there for several hours. This puts the battery under constant high voltage, which isn’t ideal long-term.
