The higher the BEE rating, the less electricity the product is likely to consume. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency rates every electrical according to the power it consumes, which is why buying electrical appliances with a 5-star rating is advisable. However, customers need to keep in mind that 5-star rated products are more expensive than their counterparts with lower ratings.
Those still using conventional yellow bulbs and light rods should switch to the LED technology as it consumes 80 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs and lights also last longer than the conventional lighting solutions.
A simple way to save electricity is to switch off electrical appliances and bulbs when they are not in use. To ensure no electricity is consumed, make sure the appliances are plugged off entirely from the socket.
Several electronic appliances continue to consume electricity even when they are in standby mode. It is better to unplug them or use power strips with on/off switches.

If possible, wash clothes in cold water even when using washing machines. Heating water requires a lot of energy, which can be avoided by switching to regular or cold water for a wash.
Using a thermostat allows setting the temperature in home to automatically adjust when there is no one or members are asleep.
