HMD launched its first branded devices that lack the Nokia branding yesterday. HMD Crest Max and Crest are two affordable smartphones for the masses. While they both share a similar specs sheet, the Crest Max is the top model with triple cameras and extra RAM/storage.
The Crest Max costs Rs 16,499 without offers and Rs 14,999, that's the range of the CMF Phone 1, which is a pretty popular choice right now. So you might be curious which phone is a better deal at the price range of around Rs 16,000. Don't fret as in this gallery, we will compare the specs of the two, letting you decide what's the best pick for you.
Design-wise, the HMD Crest has a common design with cameras on the upper right corner placed on a rectangular island. The CMF Phone 1 has solid colours with a replaceable back panel and supports different attachments. However, Crest Max has a glass back and comes with a repairable design.
HMD Crest Max has a 6.67-inch OLED display with 90Hz refresh rate support and 396 PPI. CMF Phone 1 has a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of typical brightness, 395 PPI, and AOD support. Overall, both displays are similar but the 120Hz on the Phone 1 makes it a winner.
In terms of cameras, the Crest Max has a triple-rear camera system with a 64MP main lens, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro unit. The Phone 1 has a 50MP + 2MP dual-rear camera system. The sensor on the CMF phone is slightly newer, however, it lacks an ultrawide lens. Phone 1 can shoot 4K videos, whereas, the Crest Max is limited to 1080p recording. However, Crest Max has a 50MP selfie snapper and Phone 1 has a 16MP front camera.
The Crest Max's 6nm Unisoc T760 5G chipset is new so it's yet to be tested, however, the 4nm Dimensity 7300 in the Phone 1 has been proven to be a decently powerful chipset. Both have up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage.
The Crest Max and Phone 1 both have similar batteries, i.e. a 5,000mAh cell with 33W FC. Both run on the latest Android 14 OS out of the box, however, the Nothing UI on the CMF Phone 1 is feature-rich. Also, CMF Phone 1 is assured to get two OS updates and three years of security updates. There's no word on Crest Max's update policy, which makes the CMF Phone 1 a winner in this aspect.
Overall, the CMF Phone 1 comes out to be a better phone for those who want a stylish phone that brings something new such as swappable backs. It also has a powerful chipset and gets more years of OS updates. The Crest Max is for those who want something akin to Nokia and consider the repairability factor, as users can replace the battery inside the device.
