One of the biggest changes in the iPhone 15 is likely the switch from Lightning to USB-C port. This is due to a new EU legislation that requires all phones sold in its member countries to use USB-C by 2024. Apple has not confirmed whether this change will apply to all iPhone models or only those sold in the EU.
One of the most noticeable changes in the iPhone 15 design is likely to be the replacement of the top-notch with a Dynamic Island, an interactive notification area that can display various app alerts and controls. The Pro models may also have a thinner screen bezel and more curved edges. The mute switch, which has been present since the first iPhone, may be replaced by an Action button that can be programmed to launch different functions.
The iPhone 15 is likely to have a chipset upgrade. The standard and Plus models will use the A16 chip, while the Pro and Pro Max models will use the A17 chip, which will be Apple’s first 3-nanometer chip. The A17 chip will offer better performance and lower power consumption than the previous generation. It will also enable better connectivity with Apple’s mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro, which was unveiled earlier this year.
The iPhone 15 camera is expected to see some significant improvements. The standard and Plus models will inherit the 48-megapixel sensor of the current Pro and Pro Max models, while the Pro and Pro Max models will get a periscope lens that can support high levels of optical zoom. The periscope lens will help Apple compete with other premium smartphones that already have this feature.
The iPhone 15 will likely follow the same four-model line-up as the previous generation, with the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Some reports suggest that the Pro Max may be renamed Ultra, or that Apple may introduce a new Ultra model in 2024.
The iPhone 15 price may also increase, especially for the Pro and Pro Max models. According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to raise prices in anticipation of slowing phone sales. Apple CEO Tim Cook has hinted that customers are willing to pay more for iPhones because they are integral to their lives.
The iPhone 15 launch date is expected to be September 12 or September 13, according to some sources. The phone will go on sale a week later on September 22. However, Apple has not yet announced an official date for the event.
