Apple is one of Microsoft's biggest rivals, competing in the categories of operating system and computing devices. Both are also at war in terms of their market value, which has surpassed the $2 trillion mark. Apple sells Mac, iPad, iPhone, and iPod, among other accessories.
One of the world's biggest tech companies, Google rivals Microsoft mainly in software services. Much like Microsoft Office 365, Google offers G Suite to both individual and enterprise customers. Microsoft also faces huge competition from Google in the search engine market. While Google Search dominates the market with 88.5 percent share, Microsoft has less than 10 percent share.
Amazon Web Services is another big rival of Microsoft, giving a tough competition in the cloud storage industry. AWS and Microsoft Azure are in a constant battle and have big names as clients. While AWS had a 32 percent market share in Q3 2021, Azure only covered 21 percent.
One of the oldest tech companies, IBM is another cloud and enterprise software provider. It offers a suite of services, primarily to businesses, giving Microsoft stiff competition in this space.
The company behind the Firefox internet browser, Mozilla is another rival. It has two organisations, Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla Foundation. The latter is a non-profit organisation that works with open-source developers. Mozilla's Firefox is among leading web browsers, giving tough competition to Microsoft's Edge.
Salesforce, one of the world's oldest tech companies, is another strong competitor to Microsoft, engaging in the cloud segment. It was the largest software-as-a-service provider in the world as of 2020. It offers a suite of services, such as cloud, services, and marketing.
Cisco offers IT solutions and services, offering Microsoft a tough competition in the software-as-a-service industry. It has a market capitalisation of about $244.96 billion as of January 2022.
China's behemoth, Alibaba, competes with Microsoft in the cloud business through its Alibaba Cloud arm. It had a market share of 2.8 percent in the cloud computing industry as of 2019. Founded in 2009, Alibaba Cloud garnered a revenue of $2.24 billion in Q3 2020.
