YouTube is recently facing a technical glitch, resulting in a playback speed bug that has started in the app for Android users. The issue is persistent in Android smartphones and tablets, and hence, prevents users from changing or managing video speed. As soon as you try to watch videos at double speed or slow down for better clarity, you will notice that you are stuck at normal speed.

Here’s What Happened to YouTube Playback Speed:

Android users are unable to manage YouTube playback speed, and they reported that the video playback speed option isn’t functioning properly. The issue is noticed on Android smartphones and tablets. Nevertheless, the settings is visible under the playback menu, but once you select a different speed, including 1.5x or 2x, it doesn’t change anything in the video. Once you close the app or exit the setting menu, the video sets back to 1x.

To recall, normally users can change the video speed to suit their preferences. But a recent bug in the app is stopping users to use this functionality and many have taken social media and community forums to report the problem.

YouTube Stable and Beta Version Both is Affected

One of the interesting thing about this bug is that it doesn’t just affect the stable version of the app, but also present in the Beta version of the app. Hence, it means the bug is rooted is deeper in the latest builds.

As per 9to5google, the glitch is happening on both 20.28.39 (stable) version as well as 20.29.39 (beta) version of the YouTube for Android.

YouTube Music is Working Fine

The issue and bug is affecting the YouTube main app, but it is worth noting that YouTube Music is safe. The playback speed control for podcasts are working fine for users and remains unaffected.

YouTube Acknowledges the Issue

YouTube in its response has officially acknowledged the issue and says, “We’re aware some of you are experiencing issues adjusting playback speed while watching videos on Android devices. Our teams are actively investigating this issue! We’ll update this thread as soon as we have new information.”
