It is worth noting that this is the second major outage this month. It follows the Microsoft outage last week that grounded flights, stopped banking transactions and brought the world to a standstill. According to the details shared by Microsoft, the outage affected 8.5 million Windows devices, or less than one percent of all Windows machines across the globe.
For the unversed, the Microsoft outage was caused due to an update that a company called Crowdstrike pushed on to Azure’s servers, which led to the Blue Screen of Death or the Black Screen of Error appear on the PC screens of millions of Windows PC users across the globe. You can get a more detailed explanation of what transpired during the Microsoft Outage last week here.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first YouTube outage this year. Google’s services faced a major outage back in May this year. The outage affected several services including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Search and YouTube. The issue was resolved shortly after.
