The Uttar Pradesh government has released a new social media policy for the state, under which strict action will be taken against any objectionable post on social media. The punishment can range from three years to life imprisonment under this policy.

Objectionable Post Policy:

The objective of the new social media objectionable policy in UP is to stop the hatred and fake news spreading on social media. The government believes that some people are endangering the unity and integrity of the country by misusing social media.

Social Media Policy:

Additionally, the government has also come up with a new policy for those who earn money through social media. Those who promote the work of the government will now be paid according to their followers. The influencers, account holders, and operators on X, Facebook and Instagram will be paid Rs 5 lakh, Rs 4 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, respectively per month.

“The government has decided to list agencies/firms to give advertisement to promote them for making and displaying content/tweet/video/post/reels about schemes and achievements of the UP government on online platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube,” according to the Principal Secretary, information department, Sanjay Prasad.

According to the new policy issued by the government, to display content, videos, tweets, posts and reels based on the schemes and achievements of the state government on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube through digital medium, the related agencies and firms will be listed and encouraged to issue advertisements.
