During the “Snapdragon Architecture Deep Dive 2025,” Qualcomm announced the specifications of its second-generation Snapdragon X platform with the main emphasis put on the new X2 Elite and the X2 Elite Extreme processors. The major breakthrough of the deep dive was a major improvement over the first Snapdragon X chips, and a new architecture on a 3nm process node and based on the next generation of AI PCs.
The Snapdragon X2 Elite chipset should support the best performance in all categories, which makes it one of the most advanced based on Windows PCs in Qualcomm. It has a high-performance Qualcomm Oryon CPU that can run at 5.0GHz and 18 core graphic card called an 18 core graphics card, which is capable of multitasking and supporting multiple 5K screens.
Although the chipset performs highly, it is optimized with an exceptional battery life, which provides multi-day usage and efficacy of power distribution among the CPU, GPU and NPU. Its AI has also been equally impressive with a maximum of 80 TOPS of processing power with applications such as media editing, multimodal content generation and high-end on-device AI experiences.
The Snapdragon X2 Elite is faster and safer with all-time industry-leading security, such as chip-to-cloud protection, automatic threat detection, and biometric authentication. It also introduces the next-generation connectivity at 5G speeds up to 10Gbps, Wi-Fi 7, and integrated Bluetooth, and it is a powerhouse of the latest generation of smart, portable Windows PCs.
The chipset comes in two variants, including 12 total cores and 18 total cores. Both versions share a 12-core Qualcomm Oryon chip constructed with six prime cores and six performance cores reaching a top frequency of up to 4.0GHz max multi-core frequency and 4.7GHz single-core peak speed to enable high-speed and responsive computing.
Depending on the model, the chipset has a total of 53MB or 34MB of cache and is combined with the Adreno X2-90 or X2-85 graphics card operating at up to 1.70GHz, to provide fluid graphics performance. It also combines the Hexagon NPU with 80 TOPS AI processing power that can support advanced on-device AI capabilities.
The Snapdragon X2 Elite, which supports 152GB/s with LPDDR5x memory, is designed to provide laptops with high multitasking performance, high thermal efficiency, and AI computing capabilities to remain competitive in the market.
The flagship of the new PC chipset line by Qualcomm is the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, which offers the most impressive performance for next-generation Windows laptops. It comes with 18 cores in total which is composed of 12 prime Oryon CPU cores with a maximum multi-core and a remarkable single-core boost of 4.4GHz and 5.0GHz respectively thus making it suited to high workloads and high productivity.
The chipset has 6 performance cores with a clock speed of 3.6GHz and a large overall 53MB total cache that would allow quick access to data. The graphics card is the Adreno X2-90 raising the frequency to 1.85GHz, which allows rendering and higher performance of graphics cards.
In the case of AI-based tasks, the chipset combines the Hexagon NPU with 80 TOPS, and it provides powerful AI processing on the chip. It is backed by LPDDR5x memory that has a high bandwidth of 228GB/s, which enables multitasking and responsiveness. In general, the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is the most powerful offering by Qualcomm aimed at high-performance and high-price AI PCs.
