Tiktok was banned in the US few days back by Supreme Court citing security measures. The ByteDance-owned company fought in the court but couldn’t save itself from getting banned. However, hours after shutting down, the Chinese social media company confirmed that it’s working towards restoring the services. The Tiktok Policy account on X posted a statement on the platform and praised Donald Trump, the President of US for providing the clarity on the situation that Tiktok is into.
The statement on X reads, “In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive. It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”

The US users are getting a new message when they open the TikTok app. The app displays a welcome back message with a Thank You note for being patience and users support. The message displayed on the app says, “Welcome back! As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!”
Donald Trump is eager in saving TikTok and proposes a plan by partnering with the US government. The US president suggests that the government will be owning 50% of the TikTok. Nevertheless, if this situation arises then it raises a severe concern regarding free speech and it will seen as the government directly involving in to the content moderation which will be seen as a censorship. Additionally, the service providers of TikTok like Google and Apple seems to be relying on Trump’s promises of bringing back TikTok in US.
To recall, US Supreme Court banned the Tiktok citing security issues. The US Congress passed a law last year and gave the Chinese apps the time until January 19. The law asked Tiktok either to sell their US rights to any other company or be cut off from the US. However, the company challenged the law in court but was rejected by the Supreme Court on Friday but couldn’t save itself.
