After a slow start to the year, India’s smartphone market picked up pace in Q2 2025. Shipments grew 7% year-over-year, touching 39 million units, according to new data from Canalys (now part of Omdia). The turnaround came as vendors pushed new launches and cleared older stock from the previous quarter. Amongst all, Vivo led the market with an 8.1 million unit share, followed by Samsung and Oppo. Xiaomi and Realme rounded out the top five. But just outside that list, Apple quietly made it to the sixth position. Also Read: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus Lose Higher Storage Variants After iPhone 17 Launch
Apple may have landed in sixth place in Q2 2025, but it still saw a decent response, mostly thanks to the iPhone 16 series. According to the report, over half of Apple’s shipments in India this quarter came from the iPhone 16 lineup. This shows that many buyers were willing to go for the newer models, even with their higher price.
But not every model saw the same success, the data suggested. The iPhone 16e, which is the more affordable version in the series, didn’t quite click with Indian users. Many were unsure about its single rear camera and limited features. In comparison, older models like the iPhone 15 and iPhone 13 seemed like better value—they offer dual cameras and a more complete experience. Apple also tried to promote the iPhone 16e with its new Apple Intelligence features, but since those aren’t fully available yet, it didn’t do much to appeal to buyers.
In a price-sensitive market like India, value matters. And right now, it seems older iPhones are still helping Apple to grow its sales alongside the flagship iPhone 16 models in India.
