India has started carving a special space for itself in the semiconductor industry over the past few years. Along with digital infrastructure expanding at breakneck speed in India, the country is making serious strides toward becoming a global manufacturing hub for semiconductor chips. In this regard, the Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced that India is going to produce its first domestic semiconductor chips in 2025.
Speaking at the 85th foundation day of the Keshav Memorial Educational Society in Hyderabad, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India’s first domestically produced semiconductor chip will be unveiled in 2025. He emphasized on how India is becoming a global hub for semiconductor industry and how it will begin a new era for India’s technological capabilities.
The Indian government’s push for self-reliance in advanced technology, coupled with major investment in semiconductor infrastructure, is laying the foundation for a transformation that could redefine India’s role in global tech supply chains.

Ashwini Vaishnaw also highlighted and talked about cities that ae already thriving and leading in the chip design. The cities include Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram, and Chennai and they are contributing to some of the world’s most advanced semiconductor technologies.
He said, ““Now, we are starting the manufacturing of semiconductor chips. We have already approved six semiconductor plants. Their construction is going on. We will have the first Made in India chip in 2025.”
The government is also releasing massive datasets freely and has also embarked on training one million people in artificial intelligence as a part of the broader India AI Mission. This pincer movement of AI and semiconductors indicates two things: India is not only in the game to play but also to lead at the next century defining technologies.
In the future, Vaishnaw assured that India is well on its way to emerging as one of the two leading economies in the world by 2047. The semiconductor breakthrough is right at hand, and the nation is fast jogging towards a new reality of homegrown, as well as an internationally significant source of innovations.
