Google has announced to bring a new feature to its Google Play. The tech giant mentioned the new feature in its blog post stating that the feature is specially designed for user’s extra layer of privacy and safety. The feature is named ‘Badges’.
Google Play from now onwards will display verification badges on approved VPN’s. The feature is a way to highlight and prioritize user privacy and safety. The blog post reads, “This new badge is designed to highlight apps that prioritize user privacy and safety, help users make more informed choices about the VPN apps they use, and build confidence in the apps they ultimately download.”
Additionally, the verifications bade will also complement existing features including the Play Store banner for VPNs and the Data Safety section declaration in the Play Store. The feature will meet specific standards defined by Google. In order to qualify for the verification badge, the user VPN must complete some assessment tests including Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2 validation. This assessment evaluates the app’s security.
The other requirements for VPNs should be at least 10,000 installs and 250 reviews which need to be published on Google Play for at least 90 days. They need to submit information regarding how they are collecting data, and how they are opting for independent security reviews.
The Google blog post further reads, “Earning the VPN badge isn’t just about checking a box— it’s proof that your VPN app invests in app safety. This badge signifies that your app has gone above and beyond, adhering to the Play safety and security guidelines and successfully completed a Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2 validation.”
The tech giant is rigorously working towards the safety and user privacy on its platform. Google has been functioning in order to identify safe apps on its marketplace.
