Google has officially begun rolling out Gemini for Android Auto, marking a major step forward in how drivers will interact with their cars. First previewed at Google I/O earlier this year, Gemini is now replacing Google Assistant – but it’s not just a name change. It’s a full upgrade to how voice assistance works behind the wheel. Instead of sticking to rigid commands, Gemini lets you talk naturally. Whether you’re asking for the nearest fuel station, sending a message, or adjusting your smart home devices before you get home, it’s built to understand the context of what you’re saying. You can say, “Let’s talk live,” and start a real-time conversation with Gemini. The AI assistant can also translate messages instantly – both sent and received – allowing seamless communication across languages while you’re on the road. Gemini Live is expected to gradually expand, and early testers report that it makes driving feel smoother and safer since it reduces the need to look at your phone. So far, Gemini has appeared for select users running Android Auto beta versions 15.6 and 15.7, spotted on phones like the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. While Google hasn’t confirmed a full global rollout date yet, the update seems to have quietly gone live for some users. For now, you’ll still use the familiar “Hey Google” wake phrase, but the assistant responding is Gemini – complete with natural replies, live recommendations, and integrated AI features.
