Discord Says Hackers Stole User Info via Third-Party Vendor
Discord Data Leak: The social media giant, Discord, has confirmed a data breach that exposed the personal details of some users. The only good news is that its main systems weren’t directly compromised. How did this happen? The incident appears to be a ransom-driven attack, where the hackers tried to extort money in exchange for not leaking the stolen data. Once Discord detected the breach, it revoked the vendor’s access, launched an investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts, and reached out to law enforcement.
Discord says it has already started notifying affected users via email (from noreply@discord.com) and has reported the breach to data protection authorities. The platform also warned users to watch out for phishing emails pretending to be official Discord communication – the company will not reach out by phone regarding this matter.
