Chrome Update

If you are a frequent Google Chrome user, then you need to update it right away. Google has rolled out the latest Chrome 140 update across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, the Chrome blog post confirmed. Why is it crucial to update your Chrome? The new version mainly focuses on security, addressing six reported vulnerabilities.

The desktop versions now stand at 140.0.7339.80/81, while Android users are receiving 140.0.7339.35 and iOS users 140.0.7339.95. The company has confirmed that none of these vulnerabilities have been actively exploited yet, but users are still advised to update as soon as possible to stay safe.

Google Chrome Security Issues

Among the six vulnerabilities fixed, one has been marked as high severity. This particular flaw, listed as CVE-2025-9864, was found in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine. Known as a “use-after-free” issue, it could potentially allow attackers to run malicious code if left unpatched.

The other three externally reported bugs, categorised as medium risk, which are detected in Toolbar, Extensions, and Downloads. Google has even rewarded the researchers who discovered these with bounties totalling around $10,000, the report added. The remaining fixes come from Google’s internal testing, which uses advanced tools to detect security gaps before they can be abused.

The fixes have also been extended to the Extended Stable channel (140.0.7339.81), which is often used by enterprises that prefer longer testing cycles before updates.
