If you are a frequent Google Chrome user, then you need to update it right away. The desktop versions now stand at 140.0.7339.80/81, while Android users are receiving 140.0.7339.35 and iOS users 140.0.7339.95. The company has confirmed that none of these vulnerabilities have been actively exploited yet, but users are still advised to update as soon as possible to stay safe. Among the six vulnerabilities fixed, one has been marked as high severity. This particular flaw, listed as CVE-2025-9864, was found in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine. Known as a “use-after-free” issue, it could potentially allow attackers to run malicious code if left unpatched. The other three externally reported bugs, categorised as medium risk, which are detected in Toolbar, Extensions, and Downloads. Google has even rewarded the researchers who discovered these with bounties totalling around $10,000, the report added. The remaining fixes come from Google’s internal testing, which uses advanced tools to detect security gaps before they can be abused.
Chrome usually updates in the background, but you can also check manually. Simply go to Help > About Google Chrome in the browser menu, and the update will begin downloading if it hasn’t already.
The fixes have also been extended to the Extended Stable channel (140.0.7339.81), which is often used by enterprises that prefer longer testing cycles before updates.
