September 2025 is one of the spectacular nights for Astronomy enthusiasts in India, with one of the unique Chandra Grahan taking place from 7-8 September 2025. On the evening of 7 September 2025, the sky will witness the full moon, also called the Corn Moon, which will later transition into a rare total Lunar eclipse. It is also known as Blood Moon or Chandra Grahan in India.

Such a total lunar eclipse coinciding with the Corn Moon is a rare spectacle for India, with similar events visible from the country occurring roughly once every decade.

Here’s How a Lunar Eclipse, or a Corn Moon, or a Blood Moon Occurs:

The celestial event will occur when Earth aligns perfectly between the Sun and the Moon. This alignment casts Moon shadow across the Lunar surface and gives the Moon a deep red-orange color hue. This will be one of the unforgettable nights for the stargazers.

Here’s When the Corn Moon Will Be Visible in India?

The Lunar Eclipse or Chandra Grahan or Corn Moon will rise on the evening of September 72025. You can witness the Moon in its full, bright glory before the eclipse begins. Known as the Corn Moon because it coincides with the peak corn harvest, it symbolizes abundance and the close of the growing season.

What Is a Blood Moon (Chandra Grahan) and Its Significance?

The Blood Moon occurs when the Earth blocks the sunlight from directly reaching the Moon. The red color in the Moon occurs due to the Earth’s atmosphere scattering shorter blue wavelengths while allowing longer red wavelengths to reach the Moon. Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is safe to watch with the naked eye, and hence, making it an ideal spectacle for casual viewers and photography enthusiasts.
