  • Apple is also working on its own connectivity chips for upcoming iPhones.

Apple is reportedly planning to start manufacturing its own screens in 2024 as it starts to move away from Samsung, Bloomberg News reported citing people with knowledge of the matter. according to the report, the company intends to begin by swapping out the display in the highest-end Apple Watches by the end of next year. Apple plans to eventually bring these displays to other devices as well, including the iPhone.

Currently, Apple relies on partners such as Samsung and LG for displays that it uses in the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Apple also sources display from companies like Japan Display, BOE Technology, and Sharp. “Apple Inc. is planning to start using its own custom displays in mobile devices as early as 2024, an effort to reduce its reliance on technology partners like Samsung and LG and bring more components in-house,” the report noted.

Apple is also working on its own connectivity chips for upcoming iPhones. Apple iPhones use different chips and modems made by two major companies – Broadcom and Qualcomm. The former makes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chipsets, while the latter builds 5G modems. However, Apple isn’t doing well with Qualcomm, as you’d expect after the legal battle, back in 2019. Owing to this, the Californian Giant acquired Intel’s modem business in the same year. With that sorted, Apple was expected to bring its own 5G modems this year

In other news, Apple has kept its primary focus on the long-rumored mixed reality a.k.a AR/VR headset. A new report revealed that it could arrive under the name – Reality Pro. The launch of the headset could be as early as June or before, that’s ahead of WWDC 2023.
