Apple has always pushed the boundaries of wearable technology enhancing and bringing several features that are not just focused on functionality, but also smarter and are more integrated into daily life. Apple Watch has evolved from just being a smartwatch to a versatile fitness tracker and now the tech giant is exploring new ways to help enhance the capabilities of Apple Watch. In this regard, Apple is now adding features allowing its smartwatch to see, understand, and respond to the world around it.
Apple is reportedly planning to integrate a built-in camera in its Smartwatch. The report is published by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in its newsletter. The company is reportedly targeting 2027 to bring the built-in camera to its smartwatches. This integration will be seen as the broader push towards AI in Apple products.

As per report, the camera will be integrated inside the display of the standard Apple Smartwatch series. However, Apple Ultra is expected to feature the camera on the side of the display, next to the digital crown and button. In his Power on Newsletter, Gurman mentions how this integration will revamp the idea of how we perceive smartwatches in today’s world.
With the help of this integration, the Apple Watch will now be able to see the outside world. In addition, it will now be able to deliver the relevant information to the user. Nevertheless, even after having built-in camera system, Apple Watch would not be able to deliver FaceTime and will face several challenges in doing it.
There’s no official information on company bringing its smartwatch with built-in camera, but the reports regarding this have already been there since 2024.
