Apple is reportedly working on its first MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen, expected to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027. The move would mark a major shift in Apple’s laptop design – one that promises sleeker form and added flexibility.

When is it likely to arrive?

The company recently rolled out its latest 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip, but insiders say the OLED touchscreen model is still a year or more away. Reports suggest that Apple will also launch updated MacBook Pro models sporting M5 Pro and M5 Max chips during early 2026 – these would use the existing design, without the OLED touchscreen.

What to expect from MacBook Pro OLED

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the OLED MacBook Pros will be codenamed K114 and K116, likely corresponding to 14-inch and 16-inch models. They may shed the familiar notch in favour of a hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera, offering a Dynamic Island-like functionality – a design cue familiar from iPhones.

To support a responsive touchscreen without wobble, Apple is reported to be working on reinforced hinges and screen hardware to prevent bounce or shifting when the display is touched.

Under the hood, these models are expected to run on the M6 family of chips, with thinner and lighter bodies compared to current MacBook Pros. While the keyboard, trackpad, and layout may remain familiar, the new touchscreen feature will layer on more versatility.

Because of the premium components involved – OLED displays, reinforced hinges, new chipsets – these models could carry a price premium of a few hundred dollars over today’s MacBook Pros.

Even though Apple hasn’t confirmed any of this yet, the rumours have gained traction across multiple outlets, making this one of the biggest potential shifts in the MacBook line in years.
