Amazon is tipped to be working on its first-ever Augmented Reality (AR) glasses. While there is no official word on it, a report by The Information has shed light while quoting two people who are aware of the plans. If this comes true, the e-commerce giant will rival Meta, which has introduced their special Ray-Ban AR glasses. Based on the report, Amazon AR Glasses are internally codenamed as “Jayhawk.” It is tipped to pack the usual elements that we have seen in existing AR glasses — microphones, speakers, and a camera. Moreover, it may also get a full colour display in one of the eye frames.
If it comes true, this will mark the entry of Amazon into the AR glasses market. Interestingly, these AR glasses for consumers are not the only product that the e-commerce giant is working on. Last year, a report by Reuters suggested that Amazon is working on eyewear, especially for delivery drivers. The benefit of these will be that they could guide the drivers with turn-by-turn navigation along with the route, stop, and everything needed. The initial production of the glasses is tipped to be about 1 lakh units.
It seems like you will have to wait a little longer, as the report suggests that the Amazon AR glasses will be launched in late 2026 or early 2027. On the other hand, the eyewear with navigation is said to arrive by the second quarter of 2026.
However, we still need to wait for the official word from Amazon before getting excited for the Amazon AR glasses.
