Tecno is launching its flagship foldable smartphone called the Phantom V Fold at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) slated to take place later this month. The Tecno Phantom V Fold will use the Dimensity 9000+, which is MediaTek’s flagship processor. The launch is likely to take place on February 28.
“We are delighted to be marking another exciting and important milestone together with MediaTek with the launch of the Phantom V Fold,” said Jack Guo, general manager of Tecno. “In developing the world’s first left-right foldable smartphone to be equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor, we are underlining our firm belief in the ability of this partnership to continue delivering unparalleled experiences to our customers around the world.”
Phantom is Tecno’s lineup of premium phones and it will soon add a foldable phone. Tecno showcased the Phantom V Fold last month. The phone has a rollable sliding screen, which we recently saw in action when some hands-on images of the Phantom V Fold were leaked (via MySmartPrice). The phone could be seen having a traditional book-style screen with a narrow and tall cover screen. The outer screen has a punch-hole, which houses the selfie camera. On the back of the phone, there are three cameras and an LED flash. One of the images shows the hinge of the phone could come in beige colour. The rest of the specifications of the Phantom V Fold, unfortunately, are unclear at the moment.
Tecno has also not made it clear if it will introduce a new version of its HiOS custom software for the Phantom V Fold. The HiOS 12, based on Android 12, is currently the most installed software version on Tecno smartphones.
MediaTek, which is providing the Dimensity 9000+ processor for the Phantom V Fold, said it has worked closely with Tecno for the phone. “This chip enables Tecno to bring the Phantom V Fold to market with a powerful flagship experience, and we look forward to the continuation of this valuable collaboration,” said Finbarr Moynihan, vice president of corporate marketing of MediaTek.
