The landmark Apple design features seemed to toe the line between aesthetics and utility, but there seems to be no reprieve even to the infamous Apple logo with the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro in view. New leaks suggest the possibility of Apple moving the logo further down the back of the panel, which would be the first time in Pro line history, and the purpose behind that is not purely visual.
So here we go, deconstructing what is going on, and why this apparently minor change in design may signal big news in the future of the iPhone.
The Apple logo hasn’t always been in the same place. The place of Apple logo was not always the same. In earlier iPhones, it was placed towards the top where it would be easy to notice as well as easy to brand. However, with expansion of screen sizes and change of internal hardware, Apple started to move the logo towards the middle. This has contributed to symmetry as well as ensuring larger batteries, sensors and in the recent past, superior camera capacities.
This time, Apple could lower the position further with the iPhone 17 Pro, even half of the rear glass could be occupied by the logo. Should this be true, it would be the first time in the history of iPhones to have the logo this low in the phone.

The compelling reason behind this transition seems to be the fact that the company has completely redesigned the rear camera system. Some of its properties have already been revealed as leaked dummy models and renders depict a new horizontal camera bar, which is rather different compared to square clusters used in the latest iPhones. This broad camera strip occupies more space on the top which leaves fewer spaces to place Apple branding in its usual position.
It is not all about looks though. According to the tipster name Maijin Bu, this is to maintain some sort of visual harmony on the back panel. As stated in several occasions throughout its history, Apple has insisted on the importance of balancing and maintaining a minimal approach to its hardware designs so it is feasible that the change of the logo positioning represents a larger redesign strategy.
A second probable cause is MagSafe which is an Apple magnetic wireless charging method. According to sources, Apple might also relocate MagSafe hardware downwards to keep it usable as the new camera bump will be deeper to go further down. This entails the coordination of the internal magnets, charger ring, and logo which are all used in the design and compatibility of accessories.
When the logo is moving down, chances are that it is what is going on with the rest.
Notably, Apple has not mentioned this change in the case of the regular iPhone 17, and iPhone 17 Air, which perhaps indicates the exclusive nature of the above change in the iPhone 17 Pro model. Sure, it is understandable that the Pro models are usually the first to receive the significant changes in design and camera updates.
Nevertheless, in case the modification is positively viewed or motivated by the inner-hardware needs, the same movement across the whole range can be observed during the years to come.
