Apple will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) between June 10 and June 14 to catch up with its rivals in the AI race. Already quite behind its competitors such as Samsung and Google, Apple will showcase meaningful changes to the iPhone software. iOS 18 will pack new generative AI features, a leap in the experience from Apple’s marquee apps, including Siri. However, the next AI-powered iOS will offer several other features to enhance the iPhone experience, such as AI-powered photo editing and summarisation tools. news Also Read: Apple iPad Pro Launched In India With New M5 Chip, Ultra Retina XDR Display: Price, Specs

iOS 18 to be the biggest upgrade

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has highlighted that Apple is finally ready to enter the AI contest, although it may have less capable ammunition than its competition despite having a strong war chest. In its attempt to “evolve,” Apple will release Siri’s new capabilities, giving it a more conversational speech and offering more useful tools to users. The iPhone will also gain AI-powered summarisation features, allowing users to quickly get summaries of news articles, documents, and webpages. A tool to transcribe and translate voice recordings will also be a part of the iOS 18 update. news Also Read: Apple Launches 14-inch MacBook Pro With M5 Chip And Up To 24-Hour Battery Life: Check Price And Availability

A major addition will be an AI-powered photo editor, now available on many Android phones. Google did it first with Pixel 8 phones. Apple may be among the last ones to offer photo editing features, but even the wait may not be worth it. According to the report, Apple’s AI editing features will not “impress people who have used AI in Adobe Inc.’s apps for the last several months.” This could mean AI editing tools in the next iOS update will not be as efficient as their Google, Samsung, and Huawei counterparts. Apple’s Calendar app will also gain features to fetch user’s schedules and create itineraries automatically. news Also Read: iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14 vs iPhone 15: Best Deal To Grab This Diwali Under Rs 50000

But some things will be missing

Even though iOS 18 will represent the biggest leap in the iPhone software over the years, it will lack some useful tools that are otherwise available on major flagship Android phones. One of them will be a chatbot, missing from the iOS 18 update. According to the report, Apple’s existing generative AI technology will not be advanced enough, so users should not expect a ChatGPT or Gemini-like AI bot. While it is unclear whether or not iOS will get a chatbot in future, the report outlines that several top executives at Apple are reluctant to the idea of the company “going in that direction.”
