Honor Magic V5 Debuts as an Ultra-Slim Foldable, But There’s More to the Story

Honor has now formally removed the curtain on the Magic V5-a fold phone that achieves headlines as the thinnest of its type, at least on paper. Although the company touts it as the thinnest foldable in the world, the designation is a bit of a stretch with some caveats considering the elevated camera bump and material differences between its color options once are taken into consideration.

Magic V5 Measurements and Specifications:

Measuring at 8.8mm, when folded (compared to 8.9 on the Oppo Find N5), the Magic V5 has a slight advantage of being thinner than its rival by 0.1mm. However, the white variant only satisfies this measurement because of its special fiber finish. The other color, which is composed of alternative materials such as vegan leather, measures about 9mm. By no means a record-breaking allrounder, although still sleek.

Magic V5 Camera:

Yet, thickness is not only a number. The rear camera module on the V5 is protruding slightly more than the Oppo one, which makes it feel chunkier, even though the rest of its appearance is slim. Honor counters it with good camera configuration with increased resolutions and lower shutter speed taken more as a compromise that many users will not mind.

The Magic V5 measures a mere 4.1mm thick when opened, beating out the 4.2mm frame of its competitor by a narrow margin. However, once again, Huawei trifold Mate XT still maintains the record as the thinnest open design with only 3.6mm, but it does so by sacrificing the USB-C port in one of the hinge areas.

Magic V5 Processor:

Features-wise, the Magic V5 does not disappoint. This is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, packs up to 16GB of RAM, and has a large 5,820mAh battery. Both screens are 120Hz of LTPO OLED and of IP58, IP59 resistance. It also has wireless charging, so it is a solid all-round package.

Although it might be running out of design options, Magic V5 demonstrates that Honor continues to explore the boundaries, even by degrees.
