Share Google has released the July 2025 update to Android 16 on Pixel devices, which is minor but meaningful to users of the line. This month brings fixes to the stability of Wi-Fi and the first Android 16 update to the Pixel 6a under a new battery management initiative, but much less on the introduction of new features.
Let’s dive into what’s included in the July patch, who’s getting it, and why Pixel 6a users need to pay special attention.
The latest update, tagged with the build number BP2A.250705.008, is now being released as an over-the-air (OTA) update for eligible Pixel models globally. Users will either get a notification on their phone once it’s ready or can manually check by heading to:
Settings > System > Software update > System update > Check for updates
While the July update doesn’t bring any flashy new features, it does aim to address certain bugs and performance concerns, including network connectivity and app rendering.
Among the most salient points of this update is the incorporation of Pixel 6a in the Google Battery Performance Programme. The intention of the move is to enhance the life, as well as safety, of battery consumption.
This update allows background controls, which restrict speed and charging capacities after the phone performs about 400 charge cycles. This is meant to avert the overheating problems, which were the complaint raised by Pixel 6a users in the last few months.
Depending on the usage and the condition, the users may receive free repair, partial refund or even trade-in bonus in case the users find their phone battery affected.
The Pixel 9 and Pixel 8 families also get performance optimization because the visuals are tuned, especially apps such as Android Auto that had UI inconsistency in previous releases.
The other notable improvement is Wi-Fi stability because many users were complaining about lost signals and low speed experience in some circumstances. Google mentions that Wi-Fi fixes can be different by regions and network carrier.
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 software update is more of a maintenance fix. Although it does not add significant changes, it incorporates under-the-hood new features to guarantee the ease of background processes and reliability of the system.
Users will also experience improved battery life after the update, but Google has not officially mentioned battery optimization on these models except Pixel 6a.
The owners of Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold can get slight changes in managing applications, particularly the ones that will be sensitive to the orientation of the display or will need dynamic resizing. Although this update does not come with feature-richness, it makes the overall usage more viable between both types of layouts, foldable and tablet.
Interestingly, Google has not availed Google security patch of July in this update. Neither has it released the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) list which accompanies most monthly updates.
This may be a reference either to the July update being solely functional, or a reference to a later release having security bulletins delayed.
