Apple is all set to unveil its next iPhone series in September, including iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. But one thing that’s grabbing the attention is not just the upcoming iPhone series but also the company’s first foldable iPhone. Nevertheless, Apple is still late to the foldable phone race, but it’s somewhere down the line preparing to make a strong entrance in the upcoming years.
If we believe the ongoing leaks and insider reports, then Apple’s first foldable iPhone could debut by the end of the 2026. As anticipation grows, several key details and specifications have emerged online about the device’s possible display, design, camera, battery, and pricing.
As per reports from industry experts like Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s approach for its upcoming foldable iPhone may be a book-style foldable rather than a clamshell. It could be expected to be more like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold. In addition, this foldable iPhone from Apple is expected to be made with a titanium chassis that will be complemented by a hinge system using both titanium and stainless steel.
Apple may also use liquid metal in the hinge structure which is likely to increase durability and reduce visible creases when the phone is unfolded.
Apple’s foldable iPhone could offer a 5.5-inch front display, when folded. However, when unfolded, it might reveal the 7.8-inch inner display. One of the most anticipated aspects is that Apple might deliver a nearly crease-free folding screen using an internal metal support layer to control bending stress. Screen resolutions are rumored to be high on both panels, and the inner screen may come with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
As far as camera features are concerned, the Apple foldable could take a back seat here. Several reports suggests that Apple may feature dual 48MP cameras in its upcoming foldable iPhone. Additionally, there could be a punch-hole camera that will serve the outer display, whicle the inner could use an under-screen camera.
To meet the demands of a foldable screen without compromising battery life, Apple is expected to use high-density cells and slim components like the display driver. These changes could result in better power efficiency without increasing device thickness.
If you’re planning to buy this foldable iPhone, be prepared for a premium tag. The expected price range is between $1,800 and $2,500 in the U.S., making it potentially the most expensive iPhone yet.
With Apple finally stepping into the foldable space, 2026 could be the year that changes the future of iPhones forever.
