Apple has announced that extend its satellite connectivity features for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users after launching the iPhone 17 lineup. Apple mentioned the satellite feature coming to iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 in its newsroom post. The company says users who activated their iPhone 14 or iPhone 15 in a supported country before 12:00 PM PT on September 9, 2025, will now be able to receive another free year of access.
This means the Emergency SOS via satellite service will remain free for early adopters until November 2026.
To recall, Apple initially introduced its Emergency SOS via satellite feature in the iPhone 14 lineup. The feature was introduced in November 2022 and, hence, offered for the first two years. In 2023, Apple added an extra year for existing iPhone 14 users. The tech giant pushed the p[potential subscription start to November 2025.
With this latest update, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users will get an additional free year, extending the service until November 2026.
The satellite connectivity feature allows iPhone 14 and later users to stay connected in areas without cellular coverage. This includes the ability to:
The Apple Satellite service uses the Globalstar satellite network to maintain communication when traditional networks are unavailable. Additionally, Apple also expanded satellite messaging with iOS 18, enabling users to contact loved ones when outside coverage areas.
The feature is not available in all countries.
Countries not supporting the features are China, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.
Nevertheless, users in supported regions can now enjoy the benefits without worrying about subscription costs until November 2026, providing more time to experience Apple’s satellite technology.
Apple also announced that the upcoming Apple Watch Ultra 3 will include satellite connectivity features, broadening the ecosystem of devices that can stay connected off the grid.
