PAN or the Permanent Account Number is something that almost all the people in India need to keep their taxes sorted. Now, the government of India has introduced the Pan 2.0 project which will also include a QR code without any cost. The latest upgrade of PAN cards will be focused on making the registration processor and other stuff easier for taxpayers. In addition, the PAN 2.0 project aims to modify the digital infrastructure of the Income Tax Department.
Now, it is not necessary for the old PAN card holder to apply for the new one. The old users will also have an option to choose the new format. And the older version of PAN cards will also remain valid as the same has been confirmed by the government. However, from an accessibility and security point of view, applying for a new card will be a better option.
Note: All the new users registering for the PAN card will automatically get the PAN card 2.0. However, the old cardholder can choose to upgrade for the same at zero extra cost.
