Meta’s Threads is finally receiving a noteworthy feature that several users requested. The app is getting a trending section akin to the rival X (formerly Twitter) app. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to Threads itself to reveal this feature. He called it “Trending now” and it is now rolling out to users select users. Let’s see what the feature is and how it will work. The new feature is nothing but a section inside the app that will show all the trending topics in one place. Threads users can see all the trending topics in Search and directly on their feed. In Search, users will be able to see at least five trending topics that people are discussing the most on the app. On their feed, they will see trending topics in a card format in between posts. Trending now is reaching Threads users in the US. However, it should soon reach users from other regions including India. Let’s see how you can access the feature once you get it. Also Read: WhatsApp For iOS Gets A Fresh Liquid Glass Makeover Inspired By iOS 26
As mentioned above, Threads users living in the US can use it right now. All they need to do is update the app to the latest version and they should be able to use the feature.
— After updating the app, open the app and tap on the Search icon at the bottom that looks like a magnifying glass.
— Now, you should see all the trending topics. You can see up to five trending topics in Search.
Further, you should also be able to get cards that show trending topics in between posts. It’s similar to how Instagram shows Threads posts on the app.
While the feature is here, it has some limitations. As of now, Threads users can’t see a long list of trends like on X, which shows 30 trending topics. It also has region-wise segregation of trends. Since the feature is currently only available in the US, we are yet to see how the region-wise trends may work on Threads. Threads’ trending section appears to be just at a nascent stage. However, Meta is expected to improve the feature in the future and possibly have more top trends.
Threads is a text-based social media app that Meta launched back in July 2023 to take on X. The app was able to pull 100 million sign-ups within the first week of launch. Since then, it has been receiving new features periodically. The new trending now feature is just another example of how Meta is committed to its text-based app besides Instagram.
