Xbox is going the epic Game Store way by bringing its own application on Android starting in November 2024. With the app, users will be able to play and purchase Xbox games directly from the Xbox app on their smartphone.
Sarah Bond, President of Xbox, said on X.com (formerly Twitter), ‘The court’s ruling to open up Google’s mobile store in the US will allow more choice and flexibility. Our mission is to let more players play on more devices so we are thrilled to share that starting in November, players will able to play and purchase games directly from the Xbox app on Android phones.
The decision by Microsoft to make the Xbox app a medium for purchasing and playing games was right after a court ruling in favor of Epic Games in the case against Google. US district judge James Donato published a permanent injunction under which Google is imposed to let third-party app stores in its Play library. This will also eradicate the use of Google’s billing system with which the tech giant charges high commissions.
Google has to follow the same starting from November 1, 2024. Now, the step taken by Xbox will also play a major role in motivating other third-party app stores to make it to the Play Store. As of now, there is no information regarding the working of the dedicated mobile store by the Xbox app. However, one thing that we already know is that now the Xbox games will be easily accessible by Android users. It will be interesting to see how Xbox will incorporate free titles and paid titles in the latest application.
