If you are looking for something new to play, then know Ayelet Studios is coming up with something new. PlayStation has released the teaser of its upcoming action-adventure game Son of Thanjai, which is based on the life and legacy of King Rajendra Chola I, one of the most powerful rulers of the Chola dynasty in 11th-century South India. The Chola dynasty ruled for centuries and expanded its empire across land and sea. Rajendra Chola I, in particular, is remembered for his military brilliance and naval dominance. Interestingly, the teaser’s release comes just a month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to erect statues of Raja Raja Chola and Rajendra Chola during the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival, showing how the dynasty continues to get recognition in modern times. The teaser is more like a movie trailer! It starts with Rajendra Chola heroically steering an elephant through the palace gates, greeted by a swirl of musicians, courtesans, and noble guests. Just as the revelry peaks, the scene fades into a flashback, and this is where we get a glimpse of the game’s action gameplay, with sword fights, dramatic finishers, and cinematic battle sequences. Sony hasn’t shown full gameplay yet, but a more detailed, longer trailer should arrive soon, teasing the full spectacle. However, key features already teased include the use of the Surulvaal (whip-sword), a unique weapon from Tamil martial traditions. The game brings in combat inspired by Kalarippayattu, one of India’s oldest martial arts. Players can also ride horses, elephants, and even bulls while exploring Thanjavur and nearby areas.
You will get to infiltrate enemy camps, carry out interrogations, and plan strategic battles. Apart from this, you can interact with everyday citizens such as priests, farmers, and merchants, and their responses will change based on your choices.
The official release date has not been announced yet. But the game is already available to add to your wish list. Son of Thanjai will be available on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series, and PCs.
