Mafia is back and it seems like they are switching things up in a big way. Mafia: The Old Country, the next entry in the iconic franchise, is ditching the open-world style and for a more focussed and story-driven experience. It will be set in early 1900s Sicily, and you’ll play as Enzo Favara, a young foot soldier rising through the ranks of the Torrisi crime family. Unlike Mafia III or the Definitive Edition, this new title isn’t open-world. Instead, it’s a tight, linear narrative designed to deliver a more intense and cinematic Mafia experience. Studio head Nick Baynes said that this time, they’ve gone for a linear story that focuses on quality storytelling, authentic era immersion, and a refined take on familiar Mafia gameplay. He also mentioned that the story will be gritty, grounded, brutal, and packed with emotion. So yes, we’re still getting that hardcore Mafia experience in the form of a simpler yet brutal story. Even the 2-minute gameplay trailer already shows off some great combat sequences, including a look at the weapons Enzo will use, from guns to a whole arsenal of customizable knives with different styles and attributes.

The new Mafia game will be developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games. The game drops on August 8, 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and will be priced at $50(approx. Rs 4,271).
