With the Nintendo Switch 2 launching on June 5, the final countdown is on, and some leaks have surfaced online. An early unboxing video of the next-gen handheld has leaked, giving fans their first glimpse at the packaging and hardware. There’s one catch that we’ll discuss in the article ahead. Let’s see what the pre-order situation is as of now. news Also Read: Nintendo’s New Fire Emblem Shadows Mobile Game Mixes RPG Battles With Among Us-Inspired Gameplay

Pre-Orders Sold Out in Minutes

When pre-orders went live last month in the U.S., Switch 2 sold out within minutes. Since then, a few restocks have popped up here and there, but nothing major. Big retailers like Best Buy, GameStop, and Target are now gearing up for the launch, with confirmed plans for release day restocks. In the U.K., it’s been a bit easier to find pre-orders. Although the initial batch sold out fast, restocks have been more frequent. However, many retailers are bundling the Switch 2 with pricey extras, which could be why stock hasn’t moved quite as fast.

Leaked Unboxing

But the most interesting thing that’s happened is that a YouTuber called a2dubai posted a very short, seven-second clip showing the top portion of the Switch 2 box, along with the console itself and the new Joy-Cons. The video has since been removed, but not before it was shared widely across social media and the Switch 2 subreddit.

When asked about the lack of gameplay footage, the YouTuber responded that the new Switch 2 won’t run any games out of the box. According to leaker Wario64, you’ll need to download a day-one patch before you can even boot up Switch or Switch 2 titles.

This patch isn’t just a minor bug fix. It activates several core features, like support for microSD Express cards (faster storage), 3D audio enhancements, and most importantly, enables game booting.

This clearly shows Nintendo is holding back and tightly controlling when and how the Switch 2 is shown in action. Most review units won’t be handed out until launch day, keeping early impressions closely guarded.

This move by Nintendo isn’t new as the company is known for bricking consoles and banning users caught using illegal hacks. It also shows how the gaming industry is evolving, with companies pushing live updates and online activation to make sure devices and software launch smoothly and securely.

The Switch 2 promises several upgrades, including better processing power, enhanced storage options, and audio improvements. This leak is just a teaser, but it confirms the console is nearly ready for prime time.

Pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch worldwide on June 5. The standalone console retails for $449 (approx. Rs 38,323), while the bundle with the highly anticipated Mario Kart World will cost $499 (approx. Rs 42,591).
