The trailer of the game gives us a Ghost of Tsushima-like vibe. The trailer doesn’t reveal the actual gameplay, however, we can still get to know what to expect.
Starting with the game setting, AC Shadow’s world is set in ancient Japan and the story begins in 1579. This hints that we may see Assasins and Templars in their ancient forms.
The trailer showcases some of the historical figures of great importance in Japan such as the Oda Nobunaga (one of the three great unifiers), Fujibayashi Nagoto (master ninja), and more.
Similar to the Assassins Creed Syndicate, Shadows will have two protagonists for players to choose from. One of the protagonists is Naoe, the fictional daughter of the Fujibayashi Nagora. She will have a grappling hook that can be attached to the roof edge to climb, enabling faster mobility for players. This again shows similarities with Syndicate. The second lead character is Yasuke, who is a historical figure. His abilities are yet to be revealed. Players will be able to switch between the two characters as they play the campaign mode.
Shadows will have a stealth system like older Assassin’s Creed games. The game will offer a knock-out option while stealth killing. The trailer further hints that players can crawl on the ground to maintain a low profile.
Unfortunately, we don’t get to see a pet bird that gives us a drone-like view as seen in AC Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins. However, the much-loved Eagle Vision will be returning. Other than this, it appears to be a free-roam title with several side quests in the campaign mode. Players will be able to experience the beauty of ancient Japan such as the temples, castles, art, etc.
Apart from this, Shadows will have a dynamic world, which means you will see seasons changing from spring to winter. Several terrain shifts and weather changes will also be visible as you complete the campaign.
