Apex Legends is getting a solo mode for players for the first time since 2019. Called Solos, the new mode will replace Duos in the next season in an attempt to let players run amok on the battlefield, securing loot and killing enemies in one-on-one combats. Developers Respawn Entertainment said Solos will be available for about half of season 21, ample time for them to record feedback from players to decide whether the new solo mode should become permanent.
The new Solos mode will allow players to fight battles by themselves and come with features to compensate for the lack of support from teammates. Developers have allowed players to use a one-time respawn token to join the battle back if they are eliminated in the first four rounds in the Solos mode. If players manage to make it through all four rounds without using a token, the unused tokens will be converted to Evo, which they can use for shields and upgrading abilities.
A new mechanic called Battle Sense will also be available to players in the Solos mode. This will help players determine enemies by sending audio and visual hints whenever they are in a 50-metre range. Players will also automatically heal in the Solos mode. However, the health regeneration will work slowly when players are not engaged in combat. The health regeneration process will take some time, but players can skip the wait by killing an enemy. Meanwhile, medkits and other health regeneration items will be available for manual healing. Solos will also feature weapons in new skins, adjustable circle sizes, and a reduced lobby size of 50 players from 60.
Respawn has added other minor elements, as well to Apex Legends. They include changes to the map, themes, balance, and ranks. However, the spotlight is on the new legend called Alter. The new character belongs to a different dimension and brings abilities such as creating portals through walls, floors, and ceilings.
Respawn has announced that Apex Legends Solos mode will become available, along with Alter, from May 7 when the Upheaval season starts.
