
Vivo today launched its first foldable smartphone, the X Fold 3 Pro, in India years after the company introduced the category in China. The new foldable is the company’s most expensive smartphone in India, offering features such as the top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, ZEISS-powered cameras, high-grade AMOLED displays on outside and inside, and a big battery that supports fast charging. It costs Rs 1,59,999, making it costlier than other foldable phones in the market. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the most popular foldable phone, but even it costs less.
If you plan to buy a foldable and are unsure about which one to go for, especially if could save money while receiving about the same set of features, here is a quick comparison between the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Display: If display is one of your priorities, the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is a better option. It has an 8.03-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2200×2480 pixels on the inside. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+, while its brightness maxes out at 4500 nits. The cover display uses a 6.53-inch AMOLED Full-HD+ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 uses a 7.6-inch foldable AMOLED panel with a a 1812×2176-pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+. Its cover display has a 6.2-inch AMOLED 2X panel with a 906×2316-pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
Processor: The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro will be slighlty faster than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 since it uses the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 uses last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Both phones support Android 14-based custom ROMs, however there is a catch. Samsung’s One UI is available globally, Vivo is still continuing with Funtouch OS in India while its phones in China run newer OriginOS custom software. The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro offers a 16GB RAM version, while the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has only up to 12GB of RAM.
Cameras: The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro uses a 50MP wide sensor, a 50MP ultrawide sensor, and a 64MP periscope telephoto sensor on the rear camera setup. The cameras use ZEISS Optics algorithm for processing and support 8K@30fps video recording. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 feature a 50MP main wide sensor, a 10MP telephoto sensor, and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. These cameras support 8K@30fps video recording, as well. For selfies, the Vivo’s foldable has a 32MP camera on the inner display and a 32MP camera on the cover display. Samsung offers a 4MP camera on the inner display and a 10MP camera on the cover display.
Battery: The Vivo X Fold 3 is a better option if battery life is your priority. It has a 5700mAh battery with support for 100W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a smaller 4400mAh battery with 25W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
