iPhone 16: 5 ways iPhone 16 will be different from iPhone 15

Apple is working on the next iPhones as you read this story. The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to be a big upgrade over the existing iPhone 15 models. The new phones will feature an updated design, newer internals, and an AI-charged operating system. If you own an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro, you may think that you won’t miss out on anything with just a 1-gen new iteration. However, it appears to be otherwise this time. The iPhone 16 will be quite different than iPhone 15. Let’s outline the major changes coming with the new iPhones later this year.

Design

Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are reported to feature a new design. The rear camera system’s lens placement will likely be switched from diagonal to vertical, akin to the iPhone 12. However, the looks of the rear panel give us a Nothing Phone-like impression at first glance.

The design of the iPhone 16 Pro duo is expected to be similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models. Both phones may feature a triple-rear camera system. The vanilla iPhone 15 models may get the Action button, which was introduced last year on the iPhone 15 Pro models. There are also a few rumours of a new capture button placed on the right spine of the phone. However, no confirmation is available yet.

The screen design on four of the models will also mostly remain the same, however, there could be a size difference.

Display

The iPhone 16 lineup will differ significantly in terms of the screens. The iPhone 16 Pro may feature a slightly larger 6.3-inch OLED display as opposed to the 6.1-inch OLED panel on the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 16 Pro Max’s screen will be increased to 6,9, up from 6.7 inches on the predecessor.

Last year we saw a tad bit slimmer bezels and this time also, expect narrower bezels. Expect the panels on the phones to be brighter than ever. Unfortunately, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus may still have a 60Hz panel.

Cameras

The iPhone 16 duos may have the same 48MP dual-rear camera system. However, as said above, the lens placement will change. The iPhone 16 Pro duos, on the other hand, are expected to get a better 48MP ultra-wide lens as opposed to a 12MP ultra-wide sensor on the iPhone 15 Pro lineup.

Other hardware changes

If we go by Apple’s standard pattern, we might see the A17 Pro chipset in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. However, this time, they may get a vanilla A17 chipset and not the Pro version. The iPhone 16 Pro duo may get an A18 or other successor chip to the A17 Pro. Apple is expected to focus on efficiency to do away with the heat caused while playing games.

These chip differences are expected to offer a better gameplay experience on the new iPhone 16 lineup. Other than this, we might see some battery improvements. However, the exact details of the battery are unknown. Apple is expected to use the new Snapdragon X75 modem in the iPhone 16 Pro models for better 5G connectivity.

Software changes

iPhone 16 lineup will be run on iOS 18 out of the box, which is said to enable on-device AI features. iPhone 15 Pro may not be able to utilize some of these features due to the on-device framework.
