Recall

Microsoft is finally rolling out Recall, along with a new AI-powered Windows search and a fresh Click to Do tool, exclusively for Copilot Plus PCs. After multiple delays and a major security issues, Recall was officially launched and will bring some serious upgrades to the Windows experience.

What Is Recall?

Recall is Microsoft’s attempt to make searching your PC smarter and more intuitive. It works by taking screenshots of almost everything you do, so you can retrieve it whenever you need it. Instead of trying to remember filenames or folder locations, you can simply search for vague memories like “person eating ice cream picture” or “presentation with analysis.”

Originally meant to launch last year, Recall was delayed after security researchers found serious privacy concerns. Microsoft went back to the basics, and after 10 months of work, Recall is now an opt-in feature with encryption that filters sensitive information to enhance privacy and security. This means the AI can detect sensitive information like passwords and prevent it from being captured in screenshots. Microsoft has also added a requirement for biometric sign-in via Windows Hello for added security.

AI-Powered Windows Search Gets Smarter

Alongside Recall, Microsoft is giving the Windows search a massive AI boost as well. On Copilot Plus PCs, you can now use natural language to find files, settings, or images without needing exact names or dates. This makes it much easier to search for files and documents without remembering precise names.

Meet Click to Do: Microsoft’s Circle to Search Rival

Another handy addition is Click to Do, which lets you quickly interact with text or images on the screen. This helps in whether it’s summarising text or removing an object from an image. It is pretty easy to access with a simple Windows key + left mouse click shortcut, making it super easy to use. For now, full text action support is limited to Qualcomm-powered devices, but AMD and Intel users will get it in the coming months.

The Recall, AI-powered Windows search, and Click to Do are rolling out starting today across all Copilot Plus PCs. Microsoft has made sure to prioritise security, as a feature like this can be concerning for users. Recall is activated through visual indicators, including the Recall “eye icon” in the system tray, to let users know when the AI is capturing their PC screen.
