Zoho Corporation, the Chennai-based software company behind the messaging app Arattai, is reportedly entering India’s crowded UPI payments space. The company is reportedly testing its new digital payments app called Zoho Pay, which will soon join popular platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. What sets Zoho apart from others is how it plans to link payments with messaging. Zoho Pay will reportedly be integrated into Arattai, allowing users to send and receive money within a chat window – similar to how WhatsApp Pay works. Zoho is also said to be planning a standalone Zoho Pay app for users who want a separate payments interface. Also Read: Arattai App: India’s Swadeshi Answer To WhatsApp Gets Government Backing
Zoho already runs Zoho Business, a service that helps merchants and enterprises handle transactions. With the Zoho Pay app, the company seems to bring the unified payment experience to individual users. By combining chat and payments, Zoho appears to be building a larger consumer ecosystem where users can talk, transact, and collaborate – all under one umbrella.
The exact launch date for Zoho Pay hasn’t been announced yet. The app is currently in closed testing, with limited users trying it out. While there’s no confirmation from Zoho, reports hint that a public rollout could happen soon, possibly before the end of this year.
Zoho Pay will support standard UPI features like sending money, scanning QR codes, and paying bills. The Arattai integration could be its main highlight, making it easier for users to transfer money without juggling between apps. The approach seems aimed at boosting engagement on Arattai, while also giving Zoho a place in India’s fast-growing digital payments market.
India’s UPI system processes billions of transactions every month, and Zoho’s entry could bring more local flavour to a space dominated by established players. For now, the company appears to be laying the groundwork quietly – but its combination of chat and payments could make Zoho Pay one of the more interesting homegrown apps to watch out for.
